Great Plains Welsh Heritage Center

Wymore, Nebraska; Gage County

Come and discover Welsh history and culture in Wymore, Nebraska!

During the 19th century, a vast number of Welsh immigrants left their homeland in search of a better life in North America. Many of them settled in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. As the United States began to expand westward, Welsh immigrants were among the thousands who crossed the Mississippi River to settle in states such as Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. By the time of the American Civil War, the Welsh were a significant part of the immigrant population in these areas.

The Great Plains Welsh Heritage Centre is the home of the only museum in the United States dedicated to Welsh immigrants who settled on the Great Plains. In addition to our exhibit rooms, library, auditorium and gift shop, the center includes our custom-built archives building. The center also has accessible restrooms.
