The Cowboy Trail

within the Great American Rail Trail

Beginning in Norfolk and spanning 321 miles west to Chadron, the Cowboy Trail is the third longest Rails-to-Trails project in the United States! Rails-to-Trails is a nonprofit organization that helps develop pedestrian and bike trails through abandoned railway corridors. Their mission is to re-imagine public spaces to create safe ways for everyone to walk, bike and be active outdoors. Their biggest goal is to connect our nation via the Great American Rail-Trail. Through 12 states (including Nebraska) and the District of Columbia, the trail will directly serve nearly 50 million people within 50 miles of the route. For citizens and visitors alike, it will create an all-new American experience.
